We had talked about it a while ago, but pretty much she shot down every idea I had (that was just for her, as I'm pretty sure she reads this blog! ;) ) and so I just kind of assumed she had came up with another idea. Until I got that e-mail, that is! Did I mention that she leaves Saturday morning?
So, anyway, I brainstormed with my "partner in crime" (in our CTMH business) Sonya at the workshop, I was actually helping her, and she reminded me of a project I had seen using Close to My Heart Flip Flaps.
After a few frantic hours, 56 flip flaps and eight pieces of cardstock, we had completed eight autograph books, at about 10:30 last night! Well, I guess I should say, I had my part finished. She went home to finish the rest of the books.
I'm going to attach a few pictures - they are way cute!! And then give some instructions.
So, these are actually much easier than they look; and aren't they way cool?
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
We added stamped images from Picture Perfect and the August Word Puzzle, retired. And then of course, some Mickey Mouse eyelets, some buttons and some ribbon. Kristi was going home last night to cut 4x6" pieces of plain cardstock to put inside the flip flaps for the kids to use for the autographs.
I got this project from CTMH consultant Anna Jarnagin. I'm so glad we have such wonderful consultants who like to share!!
We were able to do a little creative cutting/piecing and make one whole book (minus the autograph pages out of one piece of cardstock).
Use seven flip flaps.
Cut front cover to 4 3/4" x 7 1/2". And then score it at 7/8".
Cut back cover to 4 3/4" x 9 1/2". Score it at 7 1/2" and 7 3/4". Round the corners of the "flap" part.
Anna suggested running a piece of thin tape over each of the scored marks (on the inside) to help the photo book hold up better, so we did that too.
Then cut seven spine expanders at 1 3/4" x 4 3/4". This is where we had to get creative. I was able to cut five whole ones, and then I had to just glue a few pieces together to get the final two. Then score these in half, at 7/8".
Then assemble.
Place your back flap down, and start adhering the flip flaps. Place the first one in the center of that page. Then adhere your first spine expander, then repeat until all are used. Then attach the front cover.
Anna recommended decorating your front and back covers before completing the book, but we were in a hurry and wanted to make sure we at least got the books assembled, so we didn't, and it seemed to work fine!
That's it in a nutshell ... please let me know if this doesn't make sense and/or if you have any questions. Oh yeah, and please feel free to contact me or order from my Web site if you need flip flaps!! And don't forget to check back everyday during June for our Jackpot June deals!
I'm off to help more 4-H kids make name frames!
Happy Thursday!
