Nebraska Learns 2.0

I am signing up for the Nebraska Learns 2.0 online learning program. To complete it, I will be posting on my blog once a month about different activities I am completing. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. The program was designed for people connected with libraries to participate in, but if you are interested, you can still participate. Find out more information by visiting http://nelearns.blogspot.com/ The goal of the program is to encourage participants to experiment with and learn about the new and emerging technologies that are reshaping the way people, society and libraries access information and communicate with each other. I am very excited to participate in this program. The first project is about playing with online photo editing sites! I can't wait to learn new things that I know I will be able to make use of especially in my scrapbooking!

The prerequisite for enrolling in the course was to watch a short presentation about the 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners. The Habits are as follows:
Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning
Habit 3: View problems as challenges
Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner
Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox
Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage
Habit 7: Teach/mentor other
Habit 7 1/2: Play
I think the hardest of these habits for me is to begin with an end in mind. I don't have problems setting goals - I've got some. But I have problems putting completion dates on these goals and following through with them. That is definitely something I need to work on to make me be a more successful person. That would help in my work at the library along with my goals/dreams/aspirations for both my Pampered Chef and Close to My Heart businesses.

Something else I found very interesting about the video is that it said, "The words you use to describe yourself will soon become reality." "Don't think or say it unless you want it to be true." Those words seem kind of scary, if you think about it. I will definitely work harder on keeping that in mind. I think everybody would do well to consider that food for thought for the day!

That is also one of the reasons I am really looking forward to this class. I think it will definitely give me many ideas that will help out with my businesses and help me to network with other people. I will also be posting my results from each session on my blog. So keep a look out this month for some wacky photos! I can't wait to start playing!!

Happy Friday!

My attempts at photo editing sites ...

Hey there blog readers! I know, I know, I was supposed to be posting more regularly ... I'm sorry. But my garage sale is done, so that means I should have more time to post, right? The reason I am posting today is for that Nebraska Learns class I talked about at the beginning of the month. Nothing like procrastinating - today is the last day I can complete it! ;) I am actually really enjoying this first "assignment." Our assignment was to play with photo editing sites. For my scrapbooking friends out there, I'm thinking this could do wonders for your already wonderful pages! As I was working on my second picture, I had an idea. There are many pictures - like that particular one - that I'd like to include in my scrapbook, but can't make myself create a whole page for a picture of a flower ... but can you imagine putting this photo of the flower on it? I can. How much cooler would that make the page? I could talk about where I was and why I took the pictu

Constantly looking for one place to store all your important dates?

How many of you have all kinds of important dates running through your head, like birthdays and anniversaries, that you know you are bound to forget? I know I do ... and have. I can remember the random birthday of a college friend's brother or a high school class mate that I haven't really talked to since high school, but I can't remember my sister-in-law's or many of my best friends' special days, and even after only three years of marriage, I'll admit I've even once spaced off my own anniversary and scheduled a Pampered Chef show (it isn't always the husbands who do this!) I've tried storing these dates in different places: I've made an altered rolodex for that purpose, but I never filled it out; I've also used - and even made my own - card book. The one I got for high school graduation, I filled in all the dates, but at this point in time, I can't tell you where the book is. The one I made myself, I don't know if I even filled i
